On June 12, 2019, former Islanders Hockey Club standout Zach Sanford scored the fourth goal in a 4-1 win by the St. Louis Blues over the Boston Bruins. This was an historic game, as the Game 7 win in the Stanley Cup Finals ended a 52-year Cup drought by the Blues, going back to their inaugural season in 1967-68.
Sanford, a 1994-born resident of Salem, Massachusetts, is a former member of the Islanders Hockey Club. In the 2012-13 season, their first year under that moniker, Sanford tallied 36 points (12 goals, 24 assists) in 37 games played for IHC.
Following his IHC season, he was drafted by the Washington Capitals with the 61st overall pick of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The Capitals would officially sign Sanford after playing two seasons with Boston College.
Since joining the NHL on October 16, 2016, Sanford has appeared in 111 regular season and postseason games for the Capitals and Blues.
The 2018-19 season was Sanford's first full season in the NHL, enjoying success on offense as the Blues climbed their way into the playoff picture and, eventually, a Stanley Cup title.
In 60 regular season games for St. Louis, he earned 20 points (8G, 12A) along with maintaining a plus-8 rating. In the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Sanford appeared in eight games, with all four of his points (1G, 3A) coming in the Cup Final against Boston.
