Forward Of The Month: Spencer Sasenbury, Utica Jr. Comets
The Jr. Comets smashed right into the 15U world at the Tier 1 Labor Day Faceoff in Foxboro, Mass., making the final of the tournament in their first set of games in their existence.
At the forefront of this charge was Spencer Sasenbury (‘04/Fayetteville, N.Y.), who torched the Faceoff for nine points in four games. He then added six points (three goals, three assists) in a later September game to stand at the top of the USPHL 15U Division with 15 points in five games.
With this kind of firepower, it is little wonder that the Jr. Comets were 5-0 through the end of September.
Honorable Mention
Austin Kaminaris, Islanders Hockey Club
Maxwell Wilson, Palmyra Black Knights
Defenseman Of The Month: Hunter Irrera, Philadelphia Hockey Club
Playing for the defending USPHL 15U champions, albeit an entirely new team, Irrera (‘04/Erial, N.J.) has completely done his part to keep Philadelphia Hockey Club near the top of the league, at 6-2-0-1 through the end of September.
He had scored four points through his nine games (near the top of the league leaderboard for defensemen), and was at the forefront of a defense that was averaging just over 2.00 goals against per game. He was also well-behaved, sitting for just two penalty minutes over the course of those nine games.
Honorable Mention
Piotr Kioczot, Jersey Hitmen
Finnegan Wheeler, Utica Jr. Comets
Goaltender Of The Month: Alex Lafreniere, Islanders Hockey Club
Lafreniere (‘04/Chelmsford, Mass.) was a bit of a brick wall for the Islanders, giving up only eight goals in the space of five September games. He registered a goals against average of 1.60, which leads the USPHL 15U Division.
He has given up no more than two goals per game, and remains undefeated at 5-0 going into the Adirondack Bank USPHL 15U Showcase in Utica this weekend.
