The Showcase Superstars came through again as the Hudson Havoc both started and ended the USPHL Premier Midwest Showcase at the Fogerty Arena in Blaine, MInn., wrapping up the event as the lone undefeated team of the nine that took part.

It came down to an empty netter in the final minute of the final game, but the Havoc wrapped up yet another solid Showcase showing, and an eight-point take on the weekend.

The Minnesota Moose, who hosted the event in its own barn, entered the weekend riding a seven-game winning streak and leading the division, but the loss to the Havoc was its second of the weekend and that tightened up the division even further.

The Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings, Minnesota Blue Ox and Rum River Mallards all finished at 3-1, showing this division will be just as hard to call as it was last season.

The Steele County Blades, Minnesota Mullets and Dells Ducks each earned single wins. The Rochester Vipers will head into next weekend hoping to be on the victory road.

Minnesota Mullets 9, Rochester Vipers 6

This slugfest started quick with five first period goals, the Mullets taking it away with a 5-1 edge on the sheet in the middle period.

Tyler Perkins (‘99/Janesviile, Wis.) paced his squad with a six-point (4g, 2a) contest and Cooper Hoheisel (‘99/Chisago City, MInn.) added a hat trick. Garrett Sawyer (‘01/Northfield, MInn.) also scored three for the Vipers.

Rum River Mallards vs. Steele County Blades

This game showed two teams on two different paths at the moment as the high-octane Mallards scored early and often on its way to a decisive win to take a 3-1 record home from the weekend.

Scott Moyer (‘00/Stillwater, Minn.), Akhmed Malsagov (‘00/Moscow, Russia) and Vladimir Fadeev (‘00/Moscow, Russia) scored three apiece for the Mallards.

Hudson Havoc 3, Minnesota Moose 1

After a scoreless first period, the Havoc scored all it would need with two goals in 43 seconds with a little more than five minutes to go in the middle period. The Moose struck back with one, but that was it until an empty netter clinched it with 47 seconds to play.

Tyler Kulas (‘99/Janesville, Wis.) scored the second goal which stood up as the game-winner.
