After Christopher Garbe’s strike less than three minutes into the game, Selects Academy kept rolling and brought the title back to South Kent, CT. Goaltender Billy Girard stopped 29 shots in the contest and Garbe and Emilio Pettersen each chipped in a goal and two assists in the effort.
On Sunday, Selects Academy downed the Islanders Hockey Club led by two goals from Pettersen and three assists from Garbe.
The Skipjacks reached the Tournament’s final game with a 4-1 win over the Junior Bruins on Sunday. Clark Kerner and Brett Taylor lit the lamp in the first period and Joey Strada made it 3-0 with a strike in the second period. Mike Bermingham’s tally from Sam Colangelo to open the third period put the Bruins on the board, but Ryan Danner iced the game when he scored from Patrick Giles in the final minute.
Monday’s win gives Selects Academy their second 16U Tournament of Champions title in three seasons, having previously won the Tournament in 2014.
Congratulations to Selects Academy, the Skipjacks Hockey Club, the Junior Bruins, and Islanders Hockey Club on excellent seasons.
