Merrimack College received a verbal commitment from ’00-born forward Jonathan Young, who is currently playing for the Middlesex Islanders U16 team in the USPHL.

The Islanders play their games out of Gallant Arena at Merrimack College.

In eight games this season for the Islanders, Young has six goals and 12 assists for 18 points.

Young is from Pelham, N.H. and is currently attending Bishop Guertin High School, where he is a junior, meaning the earliest Young could arrive at Merrimack is the fall of 2018.

Young has impressed several scouts, and is being talked about as a prospect for the 2018 NHL Draft. Scouts also say that Young has added significant strength over this past summer, which has helped him elevate his game.

Almost exactly one month ago, SBNation named Young the top uncommitted prospect at the Boston Jr. Bruins Shootout.

According to sources, there were several Hockey East schools eyeing Young.
