The Springfield Pics are proud to announce that forward Hayden Smith has committed to Tufts University for this fall. The Trophy Club, Texas native had 15 goals and 25 assists for 40 points in 45 games for the Pics this season, his second with the club.

“The Springfield Pics organization has helped me so much developmentally. The long days and extra ice available were what I was looking for coming into juniors. The coaching staff has been with me since day one, and I could not be more thankful for all they have done,” said Smith of his time in Springfield, adding that “I have my parents to thank for the ongoing support my whole career. Without them none of this would be possible.”

Tufts has an elite Division III hockey program in the NESCAC and is one of the top universities on the East Coast. That combined opportunity was attractive to Smith, who said of his choice, “I'm very excited for the opportunity to play hockey at Tufts University. My goal has always been to get a great education while continuing my hockey career at a high level. The job placement potential and the Boston location of Tufts greatly influenced my decision in addition to getting to play for an amazing hockey program.”

Smith will join Pics alum Brian Brown, David Lackner, and Tyler Scroggins on the Jumbos roster.

“I’d like to congratulate Hayden and his family on this accomplishment. Hayden is a heart-and-soul kid for us here. He came to us last season from the Chicago Fury looking to gain a college commitment. Over the course of his two seasons here, he faced adversity head on. No one has worked harder or wanted success for the Springfield Pics more than Hayden Smith. We are extremely excited for Hayden, as we feel he will flourish at Tufts University. They are getting a player that never takes a day off. We wish him the best of luck,” Pics head coach and general manager Patrick Tabb said.
