The Springfield Pics are proud to announce that defenseman Tommy Martyn has committed to SUNY Fredonia for this fall. The Westchester, Illinois native had four goals and 16 assists for 20 points in 45 games with the Pics during the 2016-17 campaign, and also had six goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 42 games with Springfield the prior season.

“I would like to personally thank Coach Patrick Tabb, the Springfield Pics organization, and the Chicago Fury organization for helping develop me into the person and hockey player I am today. I would also like to thank my family, friends, previous coaches, and everyone who has helped me get to where I am today. Without you guys none of this would have been possible and I can’t thank you enough for your endless support,” Martyn said of his time in Springfield.

SUNY Fredonia competes in the SUNYAC, one of the best NCAA Division III conferences in the nation. The strength of the hockey program combined with the academic excellence of the institution was what attracted Martyn, who said “Fredonia is a school that I am confident will provide me with the resources to not only succeed academically, but as a hockey player as well. I am excited to see what the next four years will hold. Go Blue Devils.”

“I’d like to congratulate Tommy and his family on this accomplishment. Tommy is a player who came to us from the Chicago Fury and spent two seasons with us. He is an offensive defenseman with great shut-down ability as well. He has been an anchor on our blue line and in the locker room through highs and lows, and returned this season focused from day one and hasn’t looked back. We couldn’t be happier for Tommy attending Fredonia, as we feel he will be an impact SUNYAC defenseman. We wish him the best of luck,” Pics head coach and general manager Patrick Tabb said.
