USPHL Winter Showcase: Day 1 roundup

Day 1 at the Winter Showcase was a day of clear victories, close decisions and one epic save - off the side of Interstate 90. 

NCDC 

Boston Junior Bruins 5, New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 2 - The Boston Junior Bruins took down one of the hottest teams in the NCDC, beating the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs by a 5-2 score. Robby Griffin scored the GWG and added an assist, and Ryan Lovett had two assists. 

Islanders Hockey Club 8, South Shore Kings 1 - Joe Mancuso scored a hat trick for the Islanders and Bobby Murray added two more. 

Connecticut Jr. Rangers 4, Syracuse Stars 2 - Noah Strawn led the Jr. Rangers with a goal and two assists, putting the Rangers on a 7-0-0-1 run in their last eight games. 

New Jersey Hitmen 7, Rochester Monarchs 0 - The Hitmen rescued the stranded Rochester Jr. Monarchs from the side of Interstate 90 with the Hitmen bus, but the helping hand did not extend to the ice. Jericho Petkovich led the way for the Hitmen with two goals and one assist. The win was the Hitmen’s 14th in a row. 

Premier Division

Northern Cyclones 1, Lansing Wolves 0 - Phillip Vanderlaat scored the only Cyclones goal and Nick Howard sent away  22 shots. 

Islanders Hockey Club 7, Steele County Blades 0 - Tanner McClure had two goals and one assist, Timmy Kobler had one goal and two assists and Trey Peterson made 20 saves for the shutout. 

Boston Bandits 4, Charlotte Rush 3 - Hunter Fortin scored two straight goals including the game-winner and Kevin Drevitch scored one goal and two assists.  

Atlanta Jr. Kings 4, Connecticut Jr. Rangers 2 - Luke Babilon had a goal and an assist, and Owen Thomas had two helpers, as Atlanta has now gone unbeaten in regulation in four straight (3-0-1-0). 

Carolina Eagles 2, Philadelphia Hockey Club 1 - Francis Young-Menard and Zac Horn scored for the Eagles, while Matt Thurston scored for PHC. Carolina is 4-1 in its last five outings. 

Islanders Hockey Club 2, Pittsburgh Vengeance 1 (SO) - The Islanders just barely edged the Vengeance and are now 8-2 over their last 10 games. 

Hartford Jr. Wolfpack 8, Detroit Fighting Irish 0 - The Jr. Wolfpack’s Adam Kampersal stopped all 24 shots he faced, and Stephen Thibault had two goals and one assist. 

South Shore Kings 3, Lansing Wolves 2 - The Kings’ Tommy Giandomenico scored the game-winning goal and had two assists, including one on a shorthanded goal by Kade Kaminski. 

Hampton Roads Whalers 3, Northern Cyclones 0 - Blake Bjella earned the shutout, and Matthew Hanchon got the scoring underway with the game-winner. 

Charlotte Rush 3, Connecticut Nighthawks 2 - The Rush defeated the Nighthawks in a battle of two of the top Premier teams, with Matthew Jahn scoring a goal and adding an assist. 

New Jersey Hitmen 3, Atlanta Jr. Kings 2 - Robbie Sheehan scored two goals, including a shorthanded marker and the game-winner. 

Chicago Cougars 4, Connecticut Jr. Rangers 3 - Mike Schuten scored the game-winner with 3:54 remaining in the second half for a Cougars victory. 

New Jersey Rockets 5, Steele County Blades 1 - The Rockets kept their playoff hopes alive with a big victory. David Cicak scored a goal and added an assist for New Jersey.  

Philadelphia Hockey Club 5, Midwest Blackbirds 4 (SO) - Stefan Vronsky scored one goal and one assist and Levi Clemmenson had the shootout winner for Philadelphia. 

Carolina Eagles 3, Syracuse Stars 2 (OT) - Martin Jursa ended the game with 34 seconds remaining in OT for the Eagles. 

Skipjacks Hockey Club 3, Pittsburgh Vengeance 1 - Bryan O'Mara scored the game-winning goal and Trevor Dixon had two assists for the Skipjacks. 

Rochester Monarchs 5, Decatur Blaze 3 - John Swiatek scored the game-winning and insurance goals for the Monarchs. 

 

 

Elite 

Team Beijing 3, Islanders Hockey Club 2 (OT) - Ethan Hou scored the overtime game-winner for Team Beijing, who improved to 6-4-1 in their last 11 contests. 

Carolina Eagles 9, Springfield Pics 0 - Michael Villanova scored two goals and added four assists for the Eagles, who extended the winning streak they began at the Florida Showcase to five games. 

Boston Bandits 4, Charlotte Rush 2 -  Matt Tetreault scored the game-winning goal for the Bandits. 

Atlanta Jr. Kings 2, Northern Cyclones 1 - Atlanta got the game-winner from Aaron Edington. 

New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 4, Hampton Roads Whalers 1 - Mika Briere scored a goal and added two assists for the Monarchs, who are on a 9-0 run. 

Islanders Hockey Club 2, New Jersey Hitmen 0 - Nathan Bourdelais made 19 saves for the shutout in net, and goals were scored by Dylan Hernandez-Ramirez and William Miller. 

Carolina Eagles 12, Hartford Jr. Wolfpack 1 - Myles Davidson scored four goals for the Eagles, who won their sixth straight game. 

Charlotte Rush 4, New Jersey Rockets 0 - Luc Fox got the shutout for Charlotte, and Phillip Shemyakin scored the opening goal and game-winner. 

Team Beijing 2, Springfield Pics 1 - Ethan Hou scored his second game-winning goal of the day for Team Beijing, though this one came in regulation. He also had one assist. 

Atlanta Jr. Kings 4, Boston Bandits 3 - William Niederhauser scored the game-tying goal at 9:08 remaining, and the OT game-winner with 1:27 left on the clock for the Kings, who were down 3-0 after the first half.
